Cover Story: 1st Swordfish for Nick Whiteman
Nick Whiteman out of Marathon had always wanted to catch a swordfish and Captain Seth Hopp knew it, so he put together a plan that would eventually result in the September/October swordfish cover photo. The seas were perfect offshore of Key West and the current was running to the east. It didn’t take long before the deep drop rod telegraphed the tell tale broadbill tap of a deep water gladiator. Within seconds, the swordfish grabbed the rigged squid, firmly sinking the hook and forming a connection to the Key West charter vessel ”Premium Time” power drifting 1700 feet above. Minutes later an aerial display added to the FIRST SWORDFISH excitement for Nick. Captain Seth and Nick gaffed the fish together bringing the swordfish aboard the Premium Time. Congratulations to Nick Whiteman on his first swordfish!
